MITCHELL LINER

Line & Movement

I did not fully pursue my interest in art until I retired from my work as a psychologist for people with developmental disabilities. For many years, I took wheel-throwing classes at the Rockland Center for the Arts, but I am self-taught in painting. In 2005, my wife, Laurie, and I purchased and lovingly restored an 1820s farmhouse in upstate New York. We sought to furnish our house with period furniture and accessories. My earliest artwork consisted of floorcloths for our house with period designs. But I was more inspired by the aesthetic of vibrant colors and intricate geometric designs of Amish quilts, of the Bauhaus movement and of mid-century modern graphics.

My art is expressed in my floorcloths and paintings. I strive to capture a sense of movement and I hope that the viewer sees something new each time they look.
