Meet Kate, our new Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Rockland is proud to announce the appointment of Kate Mitchell as Executive Director.  We did a broad and thorough search for someone who had a track record of success in the not for profit world, strong leadership skills and a creative mind. Ms Mitchell brings to our organization the aforementioned qualities and strengths in the areas of pro-gram development, strategic team-building, fundraising, leadership and management.

With more than 20 years of experience working in not for profit arts and culture organizations in the Hudson Valley and internationally, Kate Mitchell began her career  as the Director of De-velopment at the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. She later went on to work at The Bardavon Theatre in Poughkeepsie and the Roosevelt Institute in Hyde Park. She has also served as Executive Director at both the Hudson River Maritime Museum, in Kingston, N.Y., and at Museum Village, in Orange County.  A talented Textile Artist, she just recently returned to the states after working in the rural Peruvian Andes coordinating design and production with six indigenous women’s weaving cooperatives. She is presently completing her tenure as Artist in Residence at Peters Valley Craft Center in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

According to Kate, “working with a board that includes artisans, dancers, musicians and teachers is an incredible opportunity. I am delighted to be here to support artistic endeavors in the county and help people connect.”

We would like to invite you to drop by the office and meet Kate. Her office hours are Tuesday 10 AM to 12 PM and Wednesday 10 AM  to 8 PM. The community can connect with Ms Mitchell and other area artists, performers and arts advocates at our  third annual Idea City to be held on November 14 at 6:30 at the Rockland Center for the Arts. Convene with the arts community for brainstorming and networking session presented by ACOR.  Admission is free and open to the public.
